Steam Railways
I was never a train-spotter. Collecting numbers has never held a fascination for me but I just love the sight, sound and smells of these behemoths. They seem to be alive and all have bags of character. To be honest - so do some of the diesels, for example, the Deltic and they hold the same fascination.
As a teenager I worked on the North Yorkshire Moors as a volunteer on various locos. Now I restrict myself to photographing them at any opportunity. They make great subjects. I'm not in the same league as my friend Clifford Aston though. He takes amazing railway photos - the Cuneo of the Camera
Terence Cuneo
I just love the artwork of Terence Cuneo. His images always adorned the annual Hornby model railway catalogues. His trademark was a little mouse somewhere in the image.
His paintings are full of such life and detail. One of my favourite railway books is a book of Cuneo paintings.
Here are some examples. I would say can you find the mouse but the images are too small. I'll try and get better ones ...
